    Hi Julia,
I really enjoyed watching your presentation on how the LGBTQ+ community uses TikTok to form connections and find a sense of belonging. It’s very insightful that from listening to your presentation, I could know about how the LGBTQ+ community utilized the TikTok platform affordances. It’s also amazing that you discuss the necessity of how digital role models could be very helpful for community development.

Here are the three questions I have based on your talk :

    1. You discussed how affordances like hashtags and the algorithm help users connect with like minded individuals [02:30]. Do you think these affordances could be equally effective for everyone, or are there gonna be distinct barriers for those who just began their identity journey compared to creators who already have supportive audiences?

    2. You talked about the importance of representation, especially on how creators act as role models for the youth community members [08:14]. How do you think creators balance off their pressure to be a “positive representative” for the entire community while still maintaining the authenticity of their own story or lived experiences?

    3. In the presentation you mentioned about creators like Lacy and Rey [07:08]. The focus of this part was on the benefits of digital presence. However, looking at the natural audiences of these platforms, how do you think creators can handle the risk of negative feedback or harassment while still keeping being a “positive representative” for the community?
