Hii Soraya,
Your presentation was really well put together, and used a really good case study of the Percy Jackson fandom showing how disability representation helps to form a community online. Here are my questions for you!!
1. You argue that Percy Jackson turns disability representation into a “network disability public” through platforms like Reddit, TikTok, and AO3. Do you think that kind of community could still form if Percy Jackson did not explicitly show ADHD and dyslexia representation in the canon, or is the visibility of disability what makes the discussion possible in the first place?
2. You mention that fans use social media to validate each other’s experiences and share creative content like fanfiction, memes, and edits. Could this participatory culture also risk flattening or oversimplifying disability by turning it into something more aesthetic or symbolic than lived experience, and if so, how do you think we should we think about that tension?
3. You point out that the fandom is a contested space where people debate what “good” disability representation looks like. Do you think these disagreements actually strengthen the community by forcing people to negotiate meaning together, or do they also reveal limits to how inclusive fandom spaces can really be?
Thanks for your time x
