The Royal Game 2.0: Interaction and Community in the World of Online Chess

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine the world of online chess to see how this world re-inforces or challenges existing academic theory surrounding digital community. I argue that online chess supports a positive view of digital community in which thickly-bonded relationships can grow and develop around a shared, passion-centric community.
